RELO Direct® in the Chicago Sun Times: How to Make the Move Easier for Children

Moving can be very upsetting for kids. A good way to make it easier on them is to move in the middle of the school year.

Children adjust more quickly because teachers tend to spend more time helping midyear transfers than new students who start at the beginning of a school year, said Bob Portale, chief executive of corporate-relocation management company RELO Direct.

He has moved his family twice in the past three years, most recently to Chicago from Connecticut last February.

Portale and his wife told their four children only a month ahead of their latest move, so they didn't have much time to dwell on it.

He also involved them in the house-hunting process and installed an unlimited long-distance phone plan at their new home so the children could keep in touch with friends from their old neighborhood.
